Q: Thumb or dummy? I don’t really like dummies, but people always say that thumb-sucking is bad for teeth. What do you think? Daisy

A: As with so many questions around parenting choices, there isn’t a definite right or wrong coming from experts. You can find pros and cons for both dummies and thumbs. But perhaps we can look at the pros and cons from the child’s perspective, which isn’t always prioritised, particularly when it comes to breaking habits later. And I will certainly give you my take on what can be a divisive subject.
