PlayRoom

A calm place to belong from the very beginning

The early weeks and months with a baby can feel wonderful, overwhelming, joyful and lonely – sometimes all in the same morning.

PlayRoom is a gentle weekly gathering for babies from birth to around six months and the adults who care for them.

Here, there is time.

Time for babies to move and explore freely.

Time to watch, wonder and enjoy being together.

Time to meet other parents without judgement or pressure.

Together we'll explore how respectful relationships, free movement and calm environments can support both babies and the adults who love them.

Because sometimes what we need most is a little more room.

The Heart of PlayRoom

PlayRoom is inspired by the work of Hungarian paediatrician Emmi Pikler, whose approach has shaped my practice for more than twenty years.

At its heart is a simple but profound belief: babies are active, capable people from the very beginning. When they are given time, trust and freedom within secure relationships, they reveal an extraordinary capacity to grow, learn and flourish.

Respect comes first

Every baby deserves to be treated with respect. During everyday moments of care, communication and play, we learn how to slow down, observe carefully and respond to our babies as active partners in their own lives.

Freedom to move

Every baby is born with an extraordinary capacity to move, explore and learn. Rather than hurrying development or teaching each new skills, PlayRoom offers the time, freedom and security for babies to discover what their own bodies are ready for.

Adults play a vital role - not by directing movement development, but by offering the security, time and thoughtful environment in which babies can flourish.

Given time, space and freedom, they naturally develop balance, coordination and confidence through their own exploration, laying foundations that support them throughout life.

Play that belongs to the child

It's easy to feel that we need to keep babies entertained. But often, what they need most is the time and opportunity to discover the world in their own way.

PlayRoom offers a carefully prepared environment with simple, open-ended objects that invite curiosity rather than direct it.

Without interruption or pressure to perform, babies are free to explore, concentrate and return again and again to what interests them most.

A place for parents too

PlayRoom is as much for the adults as it is for the babies.

It is a place to pause.

To notice.

To ask questions.

To share experiences with other parents.

To discover the quiet pleasure of watching your baby become themselves.

Rather than providing all the answers, I'll gently share observations, ideas and reflections as we learn together from the children themselves.

Who is PlayRoom for?

PlayRoom is designed for babies from birth until they are confidently mobile, together with a parent or other significant adult.

Small groups allow time for everyone to settle, observe and build relationships over the weeks.

Whether this is your first baby or your fourth, you'll find a warm welcome and a calm room in which both you and your baby can simply be yourselves.
